Gus, you have lots of great opportunities with your resident House Finches. Maybe some of these guys will soon molt into more colorful plumage. I like the head turn here and the crisp feathers throughout the bird. I think the harsh shadow under the tail detracts some and is an excellent reason to use fill flash if you don't find as many opportunities prior to mid-morning coffee. You might also provide them with some smaller branches for perching, which wouldn't dominate quite as much of the image. Nice work!

Oh, and 85F sounds way too warm for February!! Glad that today we finally dropped back into the 70's here in Miami! ;)

Gus,

I really like the sort of golden tone this image has, nice head turn too! Agree with Judd on the rest.

85 huh? And then Judd down to 70 blah!:p

Hi Judd,

Guess I need a Beamer, as back about 25' out of the way it looks like my flash won't cut it. Thanks for your tips.

Judd had some good recommendations and I agree. Fill-flash will even out the shadows and lower contrast making for a much more pleasing results.

Though not a big "bird-on-a-stick" photographer, when I photograph Florida Scrub Jays, I always use fill-flash.
