This is an image of a series that I made last winter and didn't process before. It was the first Snowy Owl that I have ever seen. It was sitting on this driftwood on the Long Island shore on an overcast morning. I hope some of these birds return this coming winter.

I'd love to see this bird too and even more I'd love to photograph it.

Like the mood of the image. The perch, the sand and the beautiful bird all make a great composition.

Axel:

I am struck by the perch. The shape and soft edges make me think of a bone stuck in the sand. It is a very large/heavy perch, but this same softness helps downplay the massiveness.

Lovely light, nice look back pose.

I am still waiting to see my first snowy in person. Maybe this year!

Axel, The large piece of driftwood really does have a nice flow to it. I like the pale blue sky. The soft lighting is nice. Hope to see some more Snowy Owls myself this year.

Axel,
Nice soft colors and light as stated previously. The sand is quite complimentary as well and a very clean looking landscape. Feather detail in the bird is good as well. Was this taken at a very low angle?

Last year was a great Owl year...it doesn't happen every year but we can only hope...I am making a trip to Amherst next week, for Long and ShortEared Owls..maybe the odd Sawhet...but way to early for Snowy's.
Lovely photo...

Lovely light and great details on the snowy. This is one example where a large perch works. Love the composition

Axel, I have looked at this image many times in your BPN gallery and still find it an excellent image.

Excellent perch, great subject, excellent headturn and eyes!! I realise this must have been a very greyish day but If this were mine I would probably increase the birds contrast a bit as to enhance the white of the bird as to me it looks to greyish now. But what I wouldn't give to have this shot in my files! Well done

I always liked this Snowy Owl series.
One question out of curiosity. Did you bring this log in and place it in the sand as a prop?
It just looks like maybe you did as the sand at the base is disturbed. if so, I like your thinking.
