Captured a couple of weeks ago not far from home at a duckpond. The pair have three cygnets and I may post a series of these.

Full frame, 30D, 300/1.4x, ISO400, f/7.1, 1/500th, -1/3 EC

What a pose! I don't know what to focus on, my eye keeps wandering over the entire image. Great detail for a dark bird. Did you bump up the Kelvin some? The shadow shows the sun overhead but the lighting looks warm like early or late in the day. Looking forward to the cygnet images.

Welcome back. It is good to see you here again. Sharp with a good EXP but much too tight in the frame for me. Roman K will love it. No more than about 75% of either dimension of the frame works well for me.

Lovely detail in that black plumage. Agree a bit tight.
Jim, I think the sun angle is quite low from the shadows - if overhead the far leg would have been shaded and the claw on the near leg is casting it's shadow back onto the plumage in keeping with a low angle just to the right of the viewing position.

Tony, now that you mention it, I agree, the sun appears to have been at a relatively low angle.:o

great low angle and light direction bro - exposure on blacks handled well. a tad tight for me too. waiting for the chicks!

Great detail on black, as good as I have ever seen. White Balance might have been tweaked too much and it is a tad tight. Maybe repost a second option, love the unique pose. I would like to see the pair too,
be great. Well done great exposure!!

In terms of IQ bro, I rate this one of your best. Brilliant detail and exposure on the black plumage, and really so sharp. I like the pose, especially the raised foot. Tightness of comp mentioned, but there are more positives to rate this a fine, fine image.

Hey Akos,
Artie is correct.....tight crop is fine for me....but the deal breaker is the closed eye even with the nice black exposure.....need the eye for me.
