I was quite happy when this Greater Yellowlegs decided to hop onto this "perch", and then even happier when it turned around and pointed this way. I tried a crop with no reflection, but I feel this is much stronger. A few minor imperfections cloned/patched out of the water, and whitewash digitally cleaned from rock.

Canon 40D + 100-400L @ 400mm, aperture priority, evaluative metering, 1/800s., f/7.1, ISO 400, -1 EC, natural light, handheld, about 80% full-frame.

Really cool shot Daniel., the light is really something. Personally I would have cropped the legs in the refection out., just a little too "yellow!"

Daniel:

Nice light, exposure, sharpness. Colorful but non distracting BG.

It might look unusual if someone was really paying attention, but I would be tempted to try a version with the legs in the reflection cloned out. Pretty radical for me, but I do like the lines you get from the reflected land, but find the leg reflection distracting.

It would have been very interesting if you had posted it with the legs cloned out, I am not sure anyone would have commented about them missing.

Very nice overall Daniel.

The BG and the perch make this one for me. pose, light, sharpness are all contribute.
I would crop a little bit from the bottom, up to where the legs reflectionstarts.

This is such a beautiful setting. Great "perch", background, sharpness. All round a very pleasing image. I do not find the leg reflections distracting.

Very nicely done...personally reflection gotta go ..... but lovely colors, lighting and sharpness.
Edited today...I meant only the yellow legs not the rock...

Way to go Dan. A killer fresh juvie and sharp as can be with the perfect EXP. I am with you on the leg reflections. The image would not be nearly as strong without them as with them. For me, it ties the whole image together.

ps: Love the BKGR!

I'm for keeping the leg reflection in. All positives already noted and I especially love the green (algae?) on the rock. Super image Dan

Great shot Dan!
What really does it for me here is that amazing BG. I am in agreement with your chosen crop, including the decision to leave the legs reflection in the frame. Exposure and head angle are perfect, although I'm not crazy about the rather hunched pose of the bird.
well done!

I like the leaning forward pose following the island, and really like the light, detail and sharpness. Kiler BG with multi colours, but Im with Randy to clone out the reflected legs.

Superb light, pose, colours and BG, Dan. Have to declare my self in the "only just crop out the legs" camp :D:D
