This image of a 400 year old Rimu with the vines from a Northern Rata gradually taking over was taken in Wellington last month.
Details: Pentax K10D with Sigma 18-200 @ 113mm.
400 ISO. 1/20 sec @ F5.6. No EV adjustment.
Comments welcome.

Intersting story Ian. Both the tree and plant look like excellent subjects, and I can see the vine moving in on the tree, but for me the photo seems to lack a focal point or centre of interest. Dave

Thanks Dave
I think I might have taken this before I read from Jim Miotke "Pick one, and win!" LOL.
Brilliant book."Better Photo Guide to Digital Nature Photography".
Mind you restricted options in a rainforest !!!!
By the way There is another Rata there which combined with original Rimu is estimated to be 1000 years old.
Little sign of original tree.
