Desmond, I like the unusual comp. and at first I thought the leaves should be down further in the frame-BUT the more I look at it the more I like it as is. Nicely done.

I guess I'm the opposite of Denise - I liked the comp at first glance but then felt it could be stronger. I darkened the BG since it is almost black anyway. I then added canvas and stem at the top of the image because I felt that top blossom was a little too close to the top of the frame. I also cut off the end piece of the branch because it was OOF and almost hidden by the low light. This let me take off some from the bottom getting rid of the extra dead space. I also rotated the image slightly using "free transform" to move the leaves more diagonally throughout the space.

It's all personal taste here - I just felt this looked a little more balanced (and I'm all about the balance!)

Hi Desmond. Nice image! I like the Julie's repost and feel it strengthens the image.I would go so far as taking out the branch emanating from the bottom leaf...

I do like the darkened bg in Julie's repost, but I still think the original comp was quite good. I'm thinking that a greater dof would have been better to get the middle leaves more in focus.

I was just going to post that I wished the green stuff were not behind the second bloom when I say your re post. Much better!

Julie's is a totally different photograph. My leaving the background not entirely black is entirely intentional. I can see why so many of you just want a complete black background though.

Again, thanks for leaving your comments !

They both work, Desmond...as you said, they are two entirely different perceptions of the same image - it's all about your vision as the artist and where you wanted to take that vision.

Beautiful image Desmond. Both are stunning but I prefer the slight hint of colour in the bg in the first image.:)
