As far as I know.....this has never been done. I have many images of White Dome Geyser......even at night.....but this the first reflection image. This is the culmination of a 26 hour sleepless day that ended at 9am this morning after a 5am start on Thursday......sleep is definitely at a premium!
Canon 1D Mark lll with the 17-40mm lens at 17mm on flat tripod at ISO 6400 for 30 seconds at f4 and the geyser was illuminated with a headlamp briefly.
Noise Ninja run in PP'ing.

Simply stunning!!! I think the background sky in addition to the dramatic nature of the geyser makes this such an amazing image.

Roman this is absolutely stunning! The stars are a fresh perspective that I have never seen before. The reflection is an added bonus. Congrats - this should be a winner anywhere you submit it!!!

An over the top winner in all categories!!

Roman, given the distance you were from the geyser, how did you use your headlight to illuminate the geyser?

Hey Jay,
I was actually very close to the geyser.....only about 20 ft. I was focused on infinity at 17mm. Hope this helps.

Thanks all for the kind words.....and Lance....this may be the first time there that I didn't get a visit from the park service police!

Worth the sleeploss! Wow. And the colors--the gold and blue are so perfect together. Keep it from being just "black and white" Interesting how God created colors to go even into the night. The stars add texture.....
Congratulations.

Mystical. Love the colors and lack of noise. The comp is loverly. The only thing that bugs me at all is the one really bright star/planet....

Yes boys and girls, this is spectacular wonderful, etc. but, as a reminder to the "Great Shotters," lets be sure to let everyone know why we like an image <smile>
