These birds breed in Canada subarctic habitat and not the states, but are here in good numbers this winter. My shots of this bird with fill flash, no matter how low, seem to get washed out-the most pleasing plumage is without flash. Canon 500mm F4 and 1.4x, ISO 800, F7.1

I really like the nice soft lighting. All looks great except the BG is a little busy but it makes a good habitat shot.

Is that a sunflower seed in the lower right corner?

This is a beautiful bird and I love the snowy background. The most distracting background element is the large forked branch. A square crop would take care of that.

I like it and agree with Gayle on the SQ crop. Why is the thumbnail of a different image???

How can I correct the thumbnail? I posted that once first by error and changed it but the thumb never changed.

Very nice Jeff. I would be inclined to paint some green over the white above the head.

No clue. Try e-mailing Blakie-Boy. When I first opened the thread I thought that I had become dyslexic...

Beautiful pose and perch, Jeff. I would clone out the seed shell.

I like the icy perch, details and setting. Makes a great habitat image. Agree on the shell.

Sorry about the thumbnail confusion :o Really nice work here, Jeff. I agree that taking away the top portion of the image would strengthen this a lot. Now let me see if I can get this thumbnail thing figured out ;)
