I tried something different here since the perch is quite dominant but I liked the shape and the reflection of leaves in the BG that already turned yellow and red.

Axel:

I like the concept a lot, lovely colors, very much a fall feeling.
My only observation would be that the LUC is so bright, that it draws the eye away from the bird and the rest of the scene.

I reduced the luminosity of that corner, which IMHO refocuses the eye onto the bird. There is so much detail, that I had to use a lot of compression to get the image downsized enough, but I think the idea comes across.

Do you have any with the bird perched higher on the stump?

Thanks, Randy! I think this version works, too. The bird moved further down to look for food after this.

Super comp, and with the heron nicely placed. Im glad you captured him where he was, as I feel lower down, you would have lost the impact in this. I like the foliage in the tree stump too.

I like the scene, setting, colors, sharpness and Comp.
The BG "steal" some attention, due to the bright spots.

Thanks, Ray! I didn't use flash, the catchlight is probably a reflection of the water.
