Here's my entry for the contest. This is a tritone using black, tan, and a very light orange for the colors. I've occasionally experimented with duotones so the technique wasn't entirely foreign to me, but this was my first try at a tritone. Was lots of fun and I really like the result :). Any C&C are welcome!

Great idea, Christopher! I love the look you achieved - it's almost sepia but deeper and more golden/bronze. I think compositionally I would have liked the heaviness of the acorn sitting more towards the bottom of the frame or some of the bottom cropped away but that acorn...it's a beauty! Nicely done!

Excellent detail in the acorn and the color tones selected seem perfect for this composition. I think i would have liked to see more detail in the leaf. Maybe if you stopped down a little more even to f/8 or so, it would have brought out sharper veins.

Christopher, I really like the color tones you chose. Has an antique bronze look. The acorn has alot of interest and a brushed finish look. Nicely done.

Hey Chris, very cool subject for this, like the positioning and the diagonal line in the leaf, treatment works very well with this one.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate the comments!

Ed, I don't think I could have stopped down more in this particular case because this was hand held, the shutter speed was quite low, and the ISO was as high as it can go without excessive noise. Still a good idea though.

Nicely done. I really like the composition. The tritone works well here. Maybe we can talk you into using a tripod so you can stop down your f stop. :-)

Hey Christopher,
The treatment turned out very nicely here and you placed the acorn nicely in the frame. DOF mentioned.....but this still turned out very well!
