Lovely soft colors. Tail spread nice, good HA. To my eye, the tail and rear wing are sharper than the eye/head.

Wish the gorget was just a bit better illuminated, as it looks like a beautiful one. Would also be nice to see a bit more of the near wing.

I am curious how many flashes were used and how they were placed.

Thanks for sharing this beauty.

four flashes, one front center..low, one higher left and right one on the background. Sharpness seems even on full sized RAW image, but I am having problems reducing the image size for post. Sometimes it works OK for me on one image and the next done the same way just doesn't seem to work.

I like the look of this very much. The birds body is great. Wish for a bit more visibility on the wings. Gotta love those feet!!

Cool little guy, I like the eye contact, complementing BG and dangling feet. I only wish we could see a bit more of the near wing.

Colors, BG, sharpness and pose are superb.
Would open the frame a bit (top and right) and / to move him from the center
I love to see a slightly bigger image.

Fine Work.

I have this species in my backyard from the second week of July through about mid august. They really are bullies. They bully the Broad-tails and Black-chins so much that the Broad-tails start to bully each other. As soon as the Rufous left, the Broad-tails reverted to their usual good manners.

Good comments from above. I agree that the tail seems sharpest, and though it is hard to tell at this size, another round of USM on the head might be in order. I like the pose, BG, and exposure. I wish we had male rufous around here more.

Super hovering pose, sharp, and pops so well from the BG. Another vote for seeing this larger.

Wally -
very nicely done
particularly like the BG you chose/used to compliment the HB's colors
agree that better wing positions would have put this over the top (but beyond your control)
thanks for sharing
