Shot this blackbird at a rest stop. The light was challenging and I would've liked more DOF (the tail is OOF).

Details: 1DIII, f/5.6, 1/125 sec, 400mm, ISO 800, handheld on ground.

C&C is always welcome...

Hi Vivek,
The light definitely was low. The A side on pose would have helped bringing more portions of the bird into focus. A low angle, if possible, would have been great as that would have helped in improving the background. A small crop from the top would help as that would help in avoiding the top right bright corner. Where was it? Thanks for sharing.

Cheers,
Sabyasachi

Vivek, its always difficult to comp a bird on the ground. The best is to get down and dirty and get him as low as possible. I like the colours around the eye and beak. His legs seem to be lost in the surrounding ground. Keep them coming.

Thanks for the critique folks. The lower angle in this case was not possible because the bird was down an embankment after a steep drop right by where I was (you kind of see the slope), so I had to take what I could get. I was actually on the ground when I took this shot.

This was a a rest stop on way to Kanha (in Rukhad, near Nagpur).
