This was taken earlier in the summer. The settings were -
40D, Sigma 50-500mm @ 500mm hand held
1/1600 sec, f/8 Mode: Av Metering: Evaluative Exp comp: -1/3 ISO: 400
Darkened bg and reduced noise, applied usm. Your C&C will be appreciated.

I like the pose, open beak and composition but the bird looks quite soft on my monitor.

Nice pose and wing position, I would leave more space on the left and top, also to me seems like the birds was slightly OOF (focus seems to be behind the bird)

I do like the pose but it does look as if the point of focus was below and to the right a bit?
Also, while I'm not as picky about rotation as some, the water really makes me want to lean to the left :)

Jim, good point on the cw rotation. I see it. You are right about the center focus being slight lower to the right.
