I'm just going through some files that I never got around to process. This was at Long Island, if I remember correctly the oystercatcher dropped its food but picked it up again. I only cropped a bit for composition.

Beautiful shot, exposure and detail is perfect. the lower left seems more blurred than lower right, I think it needs a more gradual blurring. What's it catching?

Thanks, Arash! I think it is a little mussel. I didn't blur anything and didn't run NR either since it is almost full frame.

Hi Axel:

Love this capture. Your blacks and whites are right on the money, and the detail is great. Love the raised leg and feathers, the flying mussel and bird's focus on that morsel. It all comes togther nicely! Marina

Thanks, Peter! I didn't do anything to the reds in PPing. I photographed the bird relatively late in the day.

Great timing and capture Axel. I love the pose and the lighting is awesome. The crashing wave in the bg really is a nice finishing touch. Excellent image!!!

Great capture. The focus of the OC on the prey is evident. Also, love the detail in the blacks and whites. And that red bill sure pops. Wish for a calmer background. Congrats. JR

Lovely light, raised foot, SH, EXP, and morsel. I was at Nickerson for the past few days (and for a while this morning in my car while it poured rain). The oystercatchers are all on the ratty side now and for the most part they simply roost on the beach. Tons of skimmers and Common Terns plus a fair number of young of each species though the Great Black-backed Gulls pick off a young skimmer ot two each moring.
