When I started to look around the web for help on getting better I checked out lots of sites on google but when I found BPN it felt like a real good fit for me. It had all the things I was searching for and joined up almost immediately.

I found out about this website after seeing it discussed on one of the other nature photography websites.

Good question. I don't remember. My guess is that it is was mentioned in one of Artie's newsletters or that someone mentioned it in a post at dpreview.com where I used to spent most of my time. Either way, it's the best thing that ever happened to my photography. Thank you! JR

While on a cruise from Alaska to Russia I met a photographer that raved about Artie and his BAA I and II. I wrote to Artie and the rest is history. Now I rave about Artie, BAA I and II, and BPN!!

I purchased one of Artie's books which lead me to his web site. His web site then pointed me to BPN. I join in Jan 2008.

If I remember correctly, I found BPN through Julie Kenward's blog. Don't remember how I found her blog though :).

Friend and local bird photographer/BPN member Stephen Stephen sent me an e-mail and link to BPN asking me if I had seen this then new bird photography forum. Followed the link, browsed a bit and signed up right away. I had never felt so much "at home" in an online photography forum :-)

I will always remember seeing a link to BPN in a thread on the Yahoo Group site dedicated to the Canon 40D. That was sometime in January 2008. I looked and joined within a day or two!

I was looking to upgrade from my Digital Rebel XTi and was considering the 50D. I went to Digital Photography Review and started reading all the articles about the camera, most of which were negative. Amid all the whining and complaining and assertions that "Canon ripped us off", I read a post that went something like this - "while you guys are telling people that this camera is useless, there are people over at BPN making some great images with it". Well, I did not know that I even wanted to be a bird photographer until that day. I looked at the images that were being posted and, well, I've been here ever since! I told my wife "omg, look at these photographs!". I've been an Audubon member for years but never thought I could learn to photograph birds at this level.

BPN is simply the best. Thanks to all of you!

When BPN went online there was a thread about it on NSN, when I checked it out and saw who was here I signed up.

I think I found it while searching Google for nature photography websites. I looked at several others and when I saw the joining price of $20 I knew this was the place for me!

Now the next question should be how long did everyone surf around the BPN forums before they got the nerve to post something!

BAA bulletin I am sure.

Julie,
I joined Jan 2, 2008 and had my first post Jan 3, 2008. No holding back. :D It's the best site there is. Period. :)

When BPN was founded Fabs invited me to join as she knew me from participation in other forums. When I saw the format (honest critiques done gently) and the people involved I joined. Glad I did. I seem to spend more and more time here.

I was googling for some new sites to view after getting bored with my usual lot - this one appealed due to the friendly nature and high quality of work :)

Have been getting BAA Bulletins for ages and first mention of BPN I followed the link. Amazing community and resource. Other forums just aren't the same.

I've been reading Birds as Art bulletins for years. Artie mentioned it often enough that I finally took his advice.

I met Jim Neiger at the Bosque in November of 2007 and he told me about BPN, which had yet to go live. I joined on day 1, and am amazed at the growth we've experienced in less than 2 years. The BPN community is fantastic, and I'd be lying if I said that participating in BPN hasn't made me a better photographer.

A friend of mine who is a professional photographer was a fan of Artie's work. I bought Artie's Book. CD's, got the bulletin and joined BPN about a year after the start up date.

After moving to New Mexico, I was browsing the website for Friends of the Bosque Del Apache NWR, saw the link to Artie's website, browsed there to the BAA bulletins, and from there to BPN.

I was in touch with Al in the developing phase and he mentioned something about a boom of something. So I was there immediately it had been announced. That is the reason I could be the paid member number one. :)

A few years ago I was searching a Utah birding web site where the Audubon group there had an article about some guy named Arthur Morris who gave a great talk on bird photography. I searched his site, signed on to his newsletter, so knew about this site early on.
