This razorbill was standing on that rock for quite a while. It looked as if he couldn't remember where his nest was. :)

This is very cool Axel. Nice one! Love the color scheme, which is nicely balanced and the details in the darker tones. Good FF use.

Thanks, Bob! I used the relatively small 300f/4 in portrait mode and had the flash attached to the camera.

Axel:

Looks like the razorbill went to puffin fishing classes! I hadn't seen them with this many fish crammed in before.

Your techs look fine, and I particularly like the non obvious fill flash use, it helped you tame the contrast nicely without looking overdone.

Cheers

This is A Gem of an image Axel ... the mouthful of fish makes the image for me .. Gr8 composition and exposure .. I would have liked a little less amount of fill flash to retain the 3D looks as much as possible but that my very own point of view .. Congrats on this one !!

One fine story telling image. Vertical was a great choice here.

Tough bird to get a good exposure, and you have got this spot on. The fish in the beak is amazing.

Axel,

Well done! I really like the BG too. What is it?

Thanks, Erich! In the BG are boulders like the one the razorbill is standing on.

Fantastic. The only thing I can think of is that I wish that the eye would be more visible. But I realize that this is one among the many challenges with this species. Congrats, JR

Fantastic use of fill flash, whites perfectly controlled! I know these birds provide a challenge as far as the eyes are concerned, but I would still consider slightly lightening the eye?

Thanks, Chris! I already lightened the eye but I think I could try to lighten it a bit more.

I really like the fine detail that you were able to capture in the dark areas. Of course, the pose and the bill full of fish are phenomenal too.
