Another juvenile in evening light. I love the band of blue water in the BG on this one.

This is a little bigger crop than I would like it to be.

Just the cutest little guy around. Great job on exposure and sweet light. Very sharp and I agree the blue in the BG adds to the image. I might take a small slice off the top and add it to the right side. Congrats.

Sweet bird, light, and BKGR. I would have moved to my left and waited for the head turn to better parallel the subject. Love the low perspective of course.

Great angle, I also like the eye contact and light, I would sharpen the bird more and tone down the highlights, they are partially overexposed.

As mentioned, nice low angle and dynamite BG. What's interesting to me is that there is no area on the ground that is in focus, yet the bird is.

Thanks for the comments everyone.

Graham, I think that is because the bird was slightly uphill from me.

Axel: You are right. I checked the histogram in the TIFF and there was no clipping though. So it is just the JPEG.

Very nice light and excellent bird. Agree about the highlights and HA. Other than that it is very pleasing image.

The low angle with the three tone BG works great on well lit bird.. congrats...

Aidan,

The low angle adds a lot of intimacy to the image. The warm light and soft BG couldn't be better IMO.

I like the sandy beach, really nice details.

Beautiful shot Aidan. Could do with crisping up. Don't agree that highlights need toning down as not clipped and detail on them more of an issue with the crop. Nice one.

Looked at this some more and played with the sharpening. (Luminosity sharpen, and then Smart sharpen but reduced opacity to not over kill.... I think. :)). Not having seen them in the wild, I have no idea how close a pump up on the upper feathers changes things or whether this has drifted off true coloration for this bird. Apologies.

Hey David, Thanks for the repost. As for sharpening, I think I would go somewhere between your version and mine.

You are very welcome. Tricky getting it right. :). Have to laugh, as I use reading glasses and have to remember to adjust head distance when playing. Cheers. D
