I have been to visit the bears 2 times and spent 14 days over that period. I can honestly say that every day has been different from 2 times of 40mph winds and 60mph gusts.....one with rain and this year without....to mid 70's and sunny....but enough mosquitos and no-see-ums....to leave thousands of welt marks on my legs (last day I ever wore shorts in Katmai!). The bonus of spending all those days is the ability to try many different things. First post, which I prefer, was at a faster SS 1/800 sec. at ISO 800 and f8 with the Mark3 and the Sigma 300-800 at 648mm.
2nd post is same set up and bear, except much more overcast at f6.3 and 1/125 sec.
Which do you prefer?

I like them both, sharpness looks better but I would give the first one a bit more head room. :) It looks as if the bear has a pretty big wound at the back.

Roman,

I like the second one best, there is more action, and obviously the slower shutter speed adds to the impact of the water.

Hey Roman, I like the sharpness and color in the first one and the ring of water around the head in the 2nd.

Both pretty neat but the second one is awesome!

Like both very much, but the 2nd edges it do to the blur. (The clincher being the level of sharpness on the snout). Fine work.

Both are good but I prefer #2. You can sense him shaking his head and the chosen s/s captured the behavior perfectly. If anything I wish his right eye was not obscured by the slinging water.

I like them both, it's a tie ! I do like the lovely saturated fur colors in the first one...the second one has that extra dynamic feel.

I also like the second one. I agree that there is more obvious motion of the head to make the water splash.

Roman,
The first one is good. The second one is delicious. I love the water thrown all around. Lovely. Good to see such images in the morning. Makes my day.

Cheers,

Roman, Beautiful images! I love the rich colors in the first image.Nice and sharp. Looks like a real nasty wound that's healing. I love the motion captured in the second one. Both are really nice.

Roman, I cannot choose as they both would find a place in my portfolio! The richness of color and the eye contact grab me in the first one, and the action in the second is what makes it.

the first one needs a bit more space up top but is a great portrait with a nice splash to add. the second one is my favourite! (although both are great). the head movement and water trails are superb!

Roman, how nice for you that you don't have to choose between them! I am sure they are both worth every bug bite you got. Second one for me.

Each image is unique in its own right, why choose?

Best,

Roman I prefer the 2nd image and the creative attempt. If the splashing water had created a bigger circle it would have been fantastic. The first post perfect on colours and sharpness.

I like both. Im going with the first one due to the sharpness, but if the second was as sharp, it would win hands down due to the shaking posture and swirling droplets. I would give anything to witness and capture these wonderful animals.

Really like the rich colors and the curving "S" of the water from the chin on the first.

Excellent, love the second one most but both great images. I know who I will be contacting when I come over there for a holiday :)
