As there are early morning high tides over here in New Zealand I am planning a trip to my favourite estuary for pictures of resting waders and BIF.
Up till now I have either been using auto exposure in centre weighted or spot metering.
Thought I might try manual exposure based on sunny F16 rule (1/100 @ F16 @ 100 ISO)
intention 200 ISO 1/800 @ F8.
Will try to remember to check Histograms !!! LOL
Equipment Pentax K10D with Sigma 400.
Any suggestions appreciated.

Hi Ian Using the sunny 16 is fine just adjust for the reflectiveness (or lack) of the bird

Metering wise I would recommend the multi (whatever the name is in the Pentax) I would stay away from spot unless you have a specific situation I have found in camera spot meters are not what you would think Focal length will make a difference

Just use 16 over the ISO Do check your histogram and get info in the right box !!!! Good luck !!!

Ian, remember if you are seeing the bird totally on top of you, his underside will be in the shade, so you'll need to add one stop of light in that circumstance.
Good luck and please post the results!
