Beautiful shot. I like the off center composition and the soft light and colors.

Dave:

Very nice. I like the subtle tonal gradations, and then the impact of the yellows and oranges.

Vry beautiful. Lovely curves in the petals and stamens. Lovely light and colors. Am wondering why parts of the flower are a bit soft, considering your f stop.

Good question Anita. This was a very small rose and I got as close as I could focus on it. At that distance it doesn't take much to get part of the flower OOF. Often I think they are on the same plane and at times I'm fooled.

Dave, can you tell us about the pp? How did you get the light to be so soft? Was it natural light or flash? Or did you do it after the fact?

Hi Jules, This was done using Nikon twin speedlights. For this image I had the compensation on the SLgts to -1 1/3.
In many cases the speedlights give a nice and even fill flash effect. Not much was done in PP on this image other than clean up tiny dirt spots and and increase sat by 10.

Poster material, Dave, the delicate colors and curves make this a very attractive image. f/32 did the magic again :)

I don't have anything technical to add. I just find this a very soothing image. The soft colors of the petals against the stronger center colors are so pretty. Amazing how nature manufactures things that are so beautiful.

Dave,

OMG what an amazing floral photo. I agree with Fabs on printing this very big.

Thanks for sharing...
