This family of flies is parasitic on ground beetles.

Excellent image, excellent detail, Thomas. I always looks at the eyes on insect close ups and these are super.

I think the image could use about 45 degrees clockwise rotation... OK, I'm just kidding!! :D

What I am not 100% sold on is the "halo" at the top center of the image. Otherwise, very nice job!

I can take or leave the halo, too but it does have one in the bottom left corner to balance it out so it works for me. I'd love to know how you pp(post-processed) this image...can you give us more details please?

Very nice sharpness on the head and front legs. I like the DOF and the diagonal comp. Well done.

Excellent composition and sharpness. Nice work getting the eyes so perfectly in focus. If I could change anything, I'd try to move the blue blob so that it was right behind the fly, but that's a bit much to ask for with something like this.

Thanks for the comments!
The blue blobs are the sky through gaps in a tree.I usually leaves the bg as much as I can.
The pp is not very much:cropped to a square, some curving,no colour adjustment (WB on flash),
the green leaf in the fg curved down a bit,it was very bright green, and finally adding unsharp mask

Thanks for the info, Thomas.
you know it's your fault I'm into flies :)

I like the sharpness and colors and flies love to stand at that angle. Love the little legs.
I'm going to post one later that's wearing fancy shoes!!

Love the angle & comp. Even the antennae & mouthparts are in focus.

BTW Thomas, Tachinids parasitize more than just ground beetles. I've inadvertently raised many of them out from many types of insects.
