i sit in quiet anticipation
constantly assuring myself
that everything will be okay
that there’s no need to panic
that it’s best to leave these things
to the ‘professionals.’

then I feel the first snip of scissors
against the back of my neck
the steel blades cool
against my summer skin
i cringe as the hair falls to the floor
sure that they removed more than I had asked for.

i resign myself to yet
another misshaped haircut
the waves and curls
askew in how they lay
Everything is out of whack atop my head
My hair is left in chaos.

i pay my bill and add a tip
silently calculating in my head
how long I can go
before I must return
to endure more torture
at the hands of the ‘professionals.’

I concur Julie, nothing worse than a bad haircut, I have however never had one as bad as this flower. But I have come close:)

I'm telling ya...I have to go get a haircut next weekend before I go on vacation in two weeks and I am DREADING it! The last two haircuts have been nothing short of disasters! I really think I need to just shave it to the nub and be done with it!

Talk about a female-male perspective thing.

From a male perspective, yo, it grows back.

Wish I could say more on this one.

Hey Jules,
Well written....but I'm with Lance! I almost pee'd myself when I read his response. We just don't get it!......and with only 1/2 inch of hair on me anyway.......well you get the idea. I did feel like i was listening to my wife when she comes back from the salon. After 20 years of marriage I have also figured out that "fine" is not the correct answer.

Lance, yes...it does grow back. That still doesn't make it any less traumatic to walk out of a salon looking like a cross between an elderly lady biker and a 12 year old boy!

Roman, I believe the word you are looking for is "stunning." :D At least you've learned that "fine" is not the appropriate response...that's more than most men ever figure out.

An elderly lady biker...ok, I'm shutting up now, big time.

Ouch. I am straight as a pick handle and hate it when I get a crappy haircut. Maybe I am vain? :D

Roman,

"Yes Dear!" is the right answer but it wears out fast!
