Taken this AM at Oceanside Marine Study Area. Lots of Night Herons , Both Yellow and Black Crown. Best at Low Tide.

400 ISO f8 at 1/800th
Fill at minus 2/3

Good shaking pose, Joe. I think it could go a bit darker and the weeds in the water are distracting.
Head angle is good and so is the EXP. More room at the bottom for virtual legs wouldn't hurt.

Fabs preety much said it for me, I would like to suggest for next time, if you can, get lower so BG will be better, light seems a tad harsh.
Congratulations, I love this species.

Looks like an immature Yellow-Crowned.
Also looks like a jester of territory defense unless it really is a fluffing of the feathers.

Not a big fan of flash, especially in this situation (middle of day perhaps).

I like the fluffed feathers from his bath and shake. I agree with Fabs to darken the Heron. Always great to see the youngsters.

Agree with posts above. You may also want to run NR on the BG.
