I know the island is in the middle, but I didn't have any other options for the full frame comp. Comments appreciated.

Lance, one of my enjoyments is looking at your website and the marvelous images you share with the World. This certainly is a wonderful addition to your portfolio. In light of the recent discussion in the hyperfocal thread, given that you used f/16, do you know recall whether you were focused at infinity?

The colors in your images are always so eye popping; are those the colors you saw at the time? Did you use any filters? Can you share some of your PP techniques creating this image?

What a vista. I really like the island in the middle, it adds to the sense of isolation. Not on my PC, but a crop of the RHS to take out the three tufts touching the right hand side of the frame. Would make a lovely print. The light is beautiful Lance.

What a beautiful scene !
Don't mind the small island in the middle. However, might increase the contrast a bit especially in the mountain base (on the left and middle in the shadows).

Jay, I always use autofocus. I stink at manual focus. I try to set the bottom AF point a third of the way from the bottom of the photo. At F16 or F11, that seems to give a pretty good dof. To be honest, the hyperfocal articles confuse the heck out of me.

For PP, after the raw processing, I typically use Shadows/Highlights, then Curves, and then Sharpen. That's about it. Sometimes I may add a little Vibrance or Sat before I Sharpen, but never alot.

That's about it. I find myself spending less and less time in PP. It seems to me that either the image is good in camera or not. If not, the PP rarely seems to save it.

Great comp and scene. Mountain tops seems to have a Magenta cast.... Image also looks to be sloping to the left and needs a CWR. Still well done on this

Hey Lance,
Agree with Kaushik on a bit more contrast. I don't mind the island either where presented and the treeline acts as a nice base. Not sure on the rotation ....if it does neede one....it is slight. Beautiful time of day and the comp works very well for me.....nicely done!

Hello Lance, I know this scene and you have really done it justice. I dont know how anyone would want to take the little rock island out. The ridge is often very red, and I think if you bumped the contrast and saturation you would pick this up. Also you might find if you do that, the subalpine fir in the foreground will redden too. I can tell from the photo that some of these trees have Mountain Pine Beetle and (unfortunately) they may just enhance to show some of the red foliage in a saturation, maybe? Its a same because in future some of those trees wont be there. Beautiful scene, lovely capture.

No further suggestions, just wanted to say that I'm leaving for a 10 day trip to Glacier NP in 2 weeks and you beautiful image has gotten me even more excited. :)

this is a magnificent scene!! I agree on the CW rotation, was the first thing my eye picked up. I don't mind the magenta cast since I know from shooting soft light on rocky surfaces this is what it often looks like to the eye. lovely comp and exposure all round.

Hey Lance, I am spending a week in the Eastern Sierras and Death Valley with Jack Graham in October. We were discussing optical illusions and leveling in images and he referenced this image.

The image looks to be not level when it really is.

The island looks like is falling off to the left and the bank of the lake seems a bit un-level as well. GO figure!<o></o>
I have a bug about level images and I had already looked at the far water line - it is level!
