There was such frantic activity at this Mara River crossing, I thought I'd literally try an "out of the box" version. All comments appreciated.

Hey Cindy, very effective out of the box :)

I love that you used the same base color to blend the frame to the page. Good image to start, great job as digital art. Thanks for sharing it!

this is fantastic. I've always wanted to learn how to do something like this. So how did you do it?

This is super. Even the one dead center has a 3D look to it.

I'm not sure this is how Cindy did it, but Fabs found this tutorial for me a while back:

Thanks, everyone! I'm not sure if I can explain my method or not, and Jim's tutorial might be an easier way. Basically, I create a duplicate layer, then use the marquee tool to select the part of the image that stays "in the box", then I select "Inverse" , then "delete" (making sure that my background color is white). Working on the background layer, I then use the eraser to quickly and neatly erase most of the image, so that the frame I created in the duplicate layer shows through, and very carefully erase with a fine brush to leave the head or hoof or whatever part I want going out of the frame. Hope that makes sense, or perhaps others than expand on my explanation.
