This is a pan blur of weeds. For some reason I'm attracted to weeds - they make a simple image with nice shapes:D
No PP work except curves.

Comments and suggestions welcome:)

Akos - Thanks (except I can't spell blur!) These were just plain weeds with seed heads on them, no flowers.
They do make nice blurs:)

Dave, sorry, I've had a long day! f/16, 1/4sec, ISO 100, taken with my 100-400L at 400mm on the road near
my house.

Slow shutter is definitely the key. I would also use a tripod for a zoom blur or if say it is a windy day so at least the camera's steady.
I tried some handheld zoomblurs indoors of orchids the other night and I was too lazy to bring the tripod in so there, I paid!

Very nice effect, Cheryl. I have also seen the weeds makes interesting patterns and this one is very nice and pleasing.

Akos, I agree about the tripod for zoom blurs. The Canon 100-400 makes it easy because it's easy to push/pull.
The pan blurs I've done have all been handheld. I have to be careful with zoom blurs - I get carried away and
zoom too hard:o

I love the repeated over lapping diagonal patterns...the tones and hues of green play very nicely...

This is a very nice image, and the fact that there are sharp edges in contrast to the blur is what makes it. Generally, IMO, sharp edges are necessary to emphasize the out of focus(or blurred) part of an image, and without the counterbalance most blurs just look like a focusing error. For example, blurred moving water caused by long exposure, balanced by sharp edges of a rocks in a stream bed, or a well focused bird head with motion blurred wings. A totally blurred image can be successful, however, yet it must rely on a strong geometrical composition, bright colors, or placed firmly in some sort of context. regards~Bill
