This is an image of "El Teide" (height 3,7 km, and about 90 km far, in Tenerife) taken from my island's shoreline (Gran Canaria) about a year ago. I used what I had at that moment, a nikon d40, a nikkor 55-200 VR. Then I cropped to about a 30% of the original image and edited with capture nx. I shoted jpg, and handheld. So the final result is a very little file, I will never print.
If I could reshot this again, with my D300 + nikkor 80-400 VR + tripod, I think I should get a much better result.
So in your opinion, would different gear made a difference?

A longer lens would have yielded a larger file for sure. This is, however, quite a loverly image. What are the birds? The layers of dust and light are spectacular. As is the framing. Encountering the same scene again with the birds is more than unlikely.... Good luck on the re-shoot!

I quite like it how it is Jose, with different gear you will get a different picture but thats not to say its a better picture :) I would however take a little of the top and wish the birds were a little higher in the frame for better balance.

Incidentally a few years ago (ok well a lot of years ago) I got engaged on the top of Teide

Great colors and I like the birds being so small, as if to represent a hostile, unfriendly environmet. Well done mate. :)

Very nice, I love it. Don't think the camera would matter much this time...
