This is Sekhmet wnich translates to mean "the powerful". It is the figure of a woman with the head of a lion. Sekhmet was the bloodthirsty defender of Ra the sun god. This statue is placed due south on the Hearst property.

Very nice perspective Lady Jackie,
I did not know that Mr. Hearst was into Ancient Egyptian knowledge...interesting...do you know why the fountain faces south? :D:):cool:

..... and probably they are not copies :)
Gus regarding the placement I think it has to do with the house ... if it faces north it would be looking away :D:D:)

Not sure Gus, and yes Al they are the real thing! They are actually looking outward from the property.
