This is a young nutria rat that I happened upon last week.
They are considered destructive pests, but there is a family
that I see year after year......the one's that the sole gator does not get.

400mm f/5.6L w/1.4X tc, ISO 800, 1/200, f/8 (save for web quality 50 due to extensive detail)

the wet fur and sharp eye makes this - super close-up! curious to see what it would look like with a tad less space in front and a bit more of the vermin included? :)

Dave,

Very well composed - just the right amount of body and the front paws in the image and enough room around him top, bottom and front - does not feel cramped. Great detail in the fur and nice and sharp.

Hey Dave, You must have a really good camera and lens. More seriously, has anyone ever told you that you are one fine photographer. Ditto all the pluses above. Was this from the car? IAC, how was the camera supported. I would lose the seed or whatever by the paw and might lose the green thing on the nose but would surely leave the one on the fur. Sorry Peter <smile>

Ah, so you used AF for this image. (I was wondering how you would focus manually on a beanbag....)

Great details. BG color is a nice compliment to the color of the fur.
