Hi all. I went to the Butterfly Encounter in Gainesville, Fl yesterday for the first time. Very nice, and this time of year VERY hot:eek:!!! But, definitely worth returning to in the fall. All different kinds with really lovely colors! This is one of the images and would someone help with the ID and a good butterflies of the world guide to get. I walked out without buying the guide, must of been the heat :p. Thanks for all comments . Taken with a D300, Nikon 70-300VR with 20mm extension tube, iso 500, f 16, 1/60 with fill flash.

Tell me about hot, we almost melted this morning at the macro class, 93 degrees and I don't even want to know about the humidity. Very nice profile, neat specimen, a plus, sometimes we don't realize they have a piece of wing missing till we see the picture!
I'm bad with ID, but we have those in Butterfly World here.

I like it a lot Nancy Difficult getting clean bg in those places and imagine you can not use a tripod? Good dof and sharp throughout but keeping the bg soft and pleasing !!! Big Congrats !!!

It's definitely a heliconian butterfly and I believe it's an Erato Heliconian. I really like the image overall but I have to say...that yellow tongue sticking out takes it over the top for me! Great catch, Nancy!

Thanks so much Fabs, Al, James and Jules. Jules thanks for the name! There were a lot of them that I found with the yellow tongue, but this one was my favorite. I tell you what this macro stuff is fun and has really kept me going with this season being so odd with far less birding opportunities. In fact I have redesigned my booth for the upcoming art festival season and have done a few 30x40 canvases of the butterflies.
