Hope this qualifies for macro......400mm f/5.6L, ISO 800, 1/160, f/8
Shot on beanbag at a distance greater than 12 ft(MFD is 12')
I do these often with acceptable success while sitting out on bird watch.

This is a very beautiful image IMO. Really like details and color of the dfly.
The color of the snag looks different to me. May be my eyes.

Like the image. I use my 300mm for "macro" and enjoy the results. Just have to move out a little, as you note. But sometimes bees and other critters are better shot that way!
Now if you liquified that image! ;)
