This egret was just setting around minding his own business. Tried to get that laid back look.

Canon EOS- 1D, EF 100- 400mm f/ 4.5- 5.6 L, EX 550, BB with Wimberley and tripod. My exposure was 1/ 400 @ f/ 8.0 ISO 320.

Enjoy....

Nice pose, and good use of flash. I would run some NR on the BG. You were probably trying to leave space for the virtual legs, but even so I might drop some from the bottom as the composition seems a bit unbalanced.

I like the soft light, exposure control, setting and angle. You could give it more room and run NR on the BG. What is the little black thing sticking out of the bill?

Aidan & Axel,

Thanks for the advise on BG NR. Will check more carefully in the future and correct. Axel it appears to me he's eating something. I just am not sure what. Don't think egrets chew on anything.

It could be some leftovers form a stick he carried, or something that stuck to his bill, it looks like it had just rained, beautiful light!

Well exposed whites, and love the tiny feather detail above the head. Great contrast in colours, and agree some NR would work.

Charlie,
Did the flash fire? I don't even see a catch-light?

James,

Its great to hear from you. My flash did fire. I can see the catchlight on my monitor and laptop.

Have a great day...

Charlie,
I think we talked about this once before. IMO, when using flash, your images would benefit from a little higher flash setting. Do you recall your flash settings.

Great having you with us at BPN!

James

James,

I can't find the flash settings. I do remember you showing me in the field how to set the flash higher and the beautiful results. Will keep it in mind in the future.

James I'm proud to be a member of BPN. Your the best...
