I like the details, soft light and eye contact and might crop a bit off the left and add canvas on the right.

You held the details in the reds well, nice HA, I like the series of holes.

I agree with Axel, re; cropping. I would probably crop in from the left to eliminate the split area in the trunk.

Do you know what species of sapsucker this is?

Wow, that is such sweet light and bird, maybe some more DOF, but I see you didn't have s/s to waste :)

IQ looks great, sharp where it needs to be. Presentation would look cleaner with the split bark cropped out - the present drill holes are enough to give interest to the trunk with including the split. You cold lighten the iris ever so slightly.

P.S. This is a Red-breasted Sapsucker.

Lovely colours and detail on the sapsucker, and sharp. I agree with the above suggestions regarding the crop.

I like this image a lot Todd. A litle bit of more DOF would be great and I think that a touch of saturation increase to the BG would compliment even better the red plumage of this guy. The eye is killer
