This is a photo in a series. Yesterday I showed this dude very laid back. As you can see he finally got back his mojo.

Canon EOS- 1D, EF 500mm f/4.0 L, 1.4 TC, 550 EX flash with BB and tripod with Wimberley head. My exposure was 1/ 50 sec. @ f/ 8.0 400 ISO.

Enjoy...

This one looks quite soft compared to the first post in the series, Charlie. I like the open bill but would suggest a bit of a crop from above and maybe the right. Spots in the water would be worth cleaning up. Not sure if a lower angle was possible.

Agree with Tony on all counts.
Body looks sharp so I'm guessing you've got a bit of motion blur in the head at 1/50 sec.

Tony,

I ran some more USM on the image. Let me know if it's any sharper. Unfortunately, I'm shooting from a boardwalk.

Thanks for your comments....

Nice action captured, Charles, and the repost does look sharper. I would agree about cropping from the top - and that would also remove some of the lighter areas in the water that tend to draw my eye. Why can't they build those boardwalks closer to water level? :) :)

The repost is an improvement. I like the composition and open bill. A lower angle would have been nice and I would remove the white spots in the water.

Repost definitely looks sharper, Charlie.

I like the repost Charles. Love the open bill and you've got a great perch. It's too bad that you have to shoot from a boardwalk. I would remove some of the spots in the water.

Charles, lovely pose, and well timed to capture the open beak. Im sure if a lower angle was possible, you would have been there. Spots covered.
