20D 100-400L IS @ ISO400 F/8 1/250 PARTIAL HANDHELD

This Waxwing caught in early morning light and shadows profiled well agaist the bokeh. Some who have seen this print ask about the branch behind the tail. I removed it and the image became very unbalanced. It needs the weight.

I see what you mean Bill but the branch following on the same direction as the tail looks strange Do like the setting very much and mood to the max !!!! Might lighten the bird just a tad btw I do like the branches on the LL corner They do add to the image !!!!

OK Alfred I ditched the branch and filled with some of the darker bokeh which helped restore balance pretty well I think. I love this forum, you guys have great eyes. This is what I consider "Birds as Art".

BTW = By the way ...

I like your edited shot a lot ... The eye seems to get lost in the black feathers though ... don't know if it's possible to make it more obvious without messing up the shot. May be just an artifact of being only 800 pixels wide though.

Thanks Alfred. I think the eye is exposure Bob. I 'll see were some isolated brightness gets me but black on black against the bright BG is tough. Glad you guys like.

Hi Bill, repost is much nicer without the branch, but I tried to get some detail out of the black head and couldn't, that's why the eye is lost...

Nahh it's gone. I usually would bring up the brightness real high on the area then black back in the surrounding area leaving the eye up but not this time. Thanks though, if anybody could do it, it would be you.
