I find this species a difficult subject. They are small and active and standard exposures often cause their eyes and head to disappear into blackness. I used manual fill flash off camera here which created a catchlight, hence in Hand of Man. I don't like the jumble of branches at the top left, but that was what the tree was like.

Canon 40D, 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 IS USM @ 400mm, 1/200s, F11, IS on, ISO 400.

Hi John You do have an alternative corp if you wish The branches dominate the little guy You did get a good pose and great detail in dark feathers ( agree very difficult exp) only a slight head turn would be needed

.... should have taken a little more time Just wanted to give a idea !!!

Thanks Alfred. I didn't see this crop and it was there right in front of me! I will experiment more with the crop tool in PS and try out alternatives.

Cute little chickadee.....they are always so noisy and busy. Al did great job with this one to show you what was there all along. Sometimes you have to look within an image.....to see an image. The original had nice colors.
