IMO you should've left room towards where the bird is looking at, nice light, pose, perch, BG and detail.

I like the eye contact, perch and snack. I agree with Ramon regarding putting the bird further to the right in the frame and would sharpen the bird more.

I like the upright pose, strong head turn, and intense stare into the light outside the frame. A plus for the "prize" in its beak. Another plus for ignoring the 'rule' that a subject should be looking into the frame and not out of it. This is a stronger image for it. (And you're in the best of company (http://www.birdphotographers.net/forums/showthread.php?t=30365).)
Consider darkening the right side a bit with a gradient. This pulls the light more to the left -- and with it, the viewer's eye. Also would benefit from some sharpening, especially around the eye.
