This image is the IOA Needle on the east shore of Maui. The pinnacle rock rises 1,200 feet above the valley. It was used by the warriors as a lookout point. YEsterday I posted a shot of the IOA Valley, looking toward the ocean, from a point near where I took this image. The weather in the valley was nice that day, but as you can see Hawaii gets rain.

When you are there it is hard to believe the height. It is over 1,000 feet above you, but due to the distance and more so the lack of scale around it, it looks like about 100 feet. But the trees would assist if you choose to mimic the warriors of old. Just make sure one of them isn't up there when you get to the top!  ;)

Give it a try Gus! :D

Not sure, Didn't try it for a number of reasons. You're welcome to ask at the visitor's center however! ;)

It was used for a warrior's lookout during the interisland wars. So presume it did give a great view of the oncoming armies! ;)
