Rancho Naturalista, Costa Rica. Canon 100-400mm zoom at 300mm. ISO 400. Manual mode: 1/250th at f/16. Seven flash lighting set-up. Artificial background.

Really cool pose Linda! The bird pops against that white BG, and the exposure is perfect. Looks like a White-Necked Jacobin though. I see a dust bunny to the left of the bird's head.

Wow! I'd just like to see one of these, let alone get such a terrific shot. I like the wing and tail position and especially the way your lighting brought out the iridescence of the feathers. A shot well worth the effort! Only thing I might suggest is one more round of very light sharpening. I think it would sharpen the eye a little more and ever so slightly brighten those feathers even more.

THANKS DOUG. It is indeed a White-necked Jacobin. I changed my mind about what image I was going to post and changed all but the title of the image.

An excellent image Linda, with your usual quality. I am not a a big fan of whites Bg but I have to say that I like it in this image. Fantastic action and exposure job

Linda, excellent posture, and you have covered the DOF perfectly. The hummer pops so well from the BG, and those colours are amazing. Congrats, I like this lots.

As above. Love the pose, and colors. However the focus seems to be more on the body than the head.

Looking forward to more

Cool pose, composition and exposure control. I would only selectively sharpen the head more.

I'm not a big fan of this background as it doesn't look very natural...but wow that pose is just amazing. Very dramatic. Too bad the sharpness is just behind the head.

Linda:

What an acrobat. I love the fanned retrices on one side only as he banks into his turn.
Sharpness mentioned. I have to say, like Jasper, that I am not enthralled by the BG. It shows the bird well, but makes it seem like a studio shot. Just a personal style issue.

Thanks for sharing!

I like the spectacular wings-down pose, the tail, and the BKGR. Good catch by Aiden on the focus.
