Found this guy this morning.. had to look him up.. I suspect a
very uncommon bird in Minnesota.
Canon 50D, 400-DO. shot at 1/800 F7.1 iso 200 over a bean
bag, out my suv window. This is a Vert. crop from a horz shot.
a few reeds removed some burning on background.

They are a pretty exciting bird to see and get to photo around here (Vancouver,BC)also Don. Nice job with the exposure and not much you can do about the setting. You may want to crop out some of the water while leaving room for projected feet.
Could luck on finding another. Dave

Exposure is good and I like the composition, you did it very well croping to vertical, but the background and foreground are really distracting.

Congratulations...not an easy bird to photograph! I like the vertical crop as it is. The head is turned just slightly away, but I like the lifted foot. Well done.

Well done, Don. Habitat is a little distracting but is a lovely illustration of the camouflage colouring - especially the foliage in front that mirrors the streaks on the breast. Cropping from below to eliminate the reflection may be an option as would a touch more sharpening with some dodging and burning.
