Here's a Red-Eyed Tree Frog from Costa Rica. These guys are classic photographic subjects with their bugged out red eyes. They can be tricky to photograph from a DOF standpoint because flash photography shouldn't be used on them and available light is usually low. I was happy with what I got in focus at f/2.8 here.

Doug,
I can't believe how much you got in focus also at f/ 2.8. You have a steady hand. Never been to Costa Rica or a rain forest. Shooting conditions would be formidable I'm sure. Wonderful colors and eye sharpness on this one.
Thanks for sharing...

Thanks Mike and Charles. It's fun for a bird guy to break out the macro gear every now and then!

Great capture Doug. We saw several frog species while in Costa Rica in March but unfortunately this was one that I was hoping for but didn't see.

Hi Doug, I remember this guy and I like your composition, the colors and the sharp details. And I also remember that this was a learning opportunity for me. Congrats and thanks again for a great trip.

Hey Doug,
Super comp on this! I defintiely would have used the Mark 3 on this to push the ISO or sacrificed a bit of speed to get a bit more DOF......considering you hand hold the 500! Still pretty remarkable sharpness for 2.8 and very cool pose and sweet subject.

Hey Roman! The problem is that I often hold the camera with one hand and use the other hand to move one of the macro flashes off the camera. It's much easier to one-hand a 50D with macro lens and flash than it is to do the same with a Mark III.
