I try and shoot these in the shade using flash or a reflector to bring up the light.

Dave, The flower is fantastic!!Lighting looks perfect. I don't care for the leaves. I like the black BG alot.

It's funny...I don't care for the way the leaves turned out, either (they look fake for some reason) but I do like how they anchor the image and balance the comp.

The flower itself is fantastic. It's so perfectly lit and exposed I feel like I could reach out and touch it. Very nicely done!

Dave,

Not sure the leaves received the same light from your flash. The water lily is awesome. Sharp with great color and detail.
Thanks for sharing...

Breath taking Dave!
You have positionned the flower perfectly and the use of f/32 allowed the whole flower to be sharp. Direction and softness of the light complete this masterpiece with a fine artistic taste.
Great job!

Love the colour and sharpness of the lily Dave. I like the leaves in compositionally but they seem to have a cyan cast. Is that from the drop off in light from the flash?

Hey Jackie...After looking at it with the cyan caste in mind I believe your right...never really noticed that since most of my concentration was probably on the flower. Very possible it could have been caused by the drop off or just a color shift...
I will revisit it....thanks

Dave,

I echo Jackie's comments.
