I shot this pelargonium seed a year ago, but had never published it, as I feltl it was a fail. Today I rediscovered it in my files, and thought (as I have been learning a lot in the last year) I was able to analyze the reason why it's a fail. So I want to hear some thoughts on the faults you find....(I know some of the elements on the composition are right to me, tought some others.....)
This was my first day with nikkor 105 f2.8 micro (bought it really cheap on ebay), so I went to the garden of my building, and practiced a lot :-). Everything was manual, focus, metering,... No flash, no tripod,.....
Some editing on capture nx, to make the BG darker....

Glad to hear about your recent purchase. The 105 macro is a winner. Very nice presentation on this graphic image. I think the BG helps draw me to the seed. Did you take any images stopped down more?

Hi Charles. No, I did'nt stopped down in the rest of the series, but I think I was lucky with one of them: link (http://www.birdphotographers.net/forums/showthread.php?t=29543)
In this one, I hate the bright specles I see in the filaments....

Jose, I think this could work two different ways: First, you could bring up the shadows a bit and help the viewer understand the relationship between the brown leaf/stem on the left to the seed OR you could crop in close and make the seed on a black BG the only focal point. I think either way would work!

I do think in a perfect world that the filaments here are probably blown but it's so dramatic against the black BG that my eye is willing to overlook it.

I like it as presented. However a tighter crop and removing the OOF area at the bottom of the stem would help add more impact.
