Another from the Costa Rica tour with Doug Brown and Greg Basco. Thanks Doug for all the help processing this one. It finally has that zip I've always wanted in processing my photos. I learned lots today.

Canon 50D
ISO 200, f16 1/250s
Lens 70-200mm at 170.

Cheers

Gary:

Fun tail end pose, with great wing spread, decent head angle considering that pose!

The sharpest point of focus is the tail/lower back, so the head and wings are just a bit soft, despite the f stop.

Nice balance of brightness between the bird and flower. It is really easy to have the flower dominate the bird.

Pleasant background.

Thanks for posting, would love to see more!

Well balanced comp, and love the hovering posture in this. What a killer BG. There is enough detail on the head to show thats its sharp enough. I dont know if some selected sharpening would help.

Love the pose Gary! It does present a DOF challenge though, as Randy points out. Still, some great action captured!

Lovely composition, BG and colours. Agree point of focus on tail, but you had just enough DOF to render it acceptably sharp. Well done
