Here's another ice image from the edge of a frozen creek. It looks like some kind of alien with gills. Fuji S3 Pro, Sigma 180, Tripod, F22

I am still amazed at these graphic designs in ice - looks so much like modern art rather than an act of nature!! Well seen Mike!

Hi Mike!

This has so much lovely texture and detail! Can you describe more how it was done? I really like the "organic" feel!

Hey Brian, In the very first stage off freeze in these tiny streams you have newly forming ice that creates these interesting patterns. The slight flow of water will help define the patterms as it forms. As the ice increases in thinkness the forms seem to fade and turn to a solid white color. Under the right condition there's tons of patterns to pick from.

You can really extract a whole universe out of ice :)

What talent!!!!

I am fascinated with this image (not to mention a fan of all your work). Can you tell me how you processed this? This is mesmerizing. Thanks

Hey Lana, no special processing this is just as it look in the ice. I do some sharpining, and some contrast work and that about it. Thanks, Kaushik

I've got to chime in here, too, Mike: your ice patterns are really amazing, this one especially! I'm going to start paying more attention to small streams in winter....(-:

Mike - I love these images! I had mentioned the German artists HR Giger in a previous post and this one even more reminds me of his airbrushings. Very biological, yet mechanical and alien at the same time.

Not a lot to add. amazing capture and eye for the unusal and art in the smallest places. Makes me think of an image of an ancient alien space ship found in the future. Thanks for sharing your creative style.
