This is another of the RTH encounter last month.....I walked out back
from my residence, and there he was. A stunning young specimen
that had recently dined....decided not to clean him up.

an interesting FYI: the bg is a distant 2 story tan brick building

400mm f/5.6L w/1.4X, ISO 400, 1/250, f/8
Thanks for looking and continued c/c

Dave:

Very nice, sharp, well exposed, good detail in feathers, that raptor imperious gaze.

I agree with your decision to leave the tell tale signs of lunch.

It always pays to be prepared!

Thanks for sharing.

I like this portrait, good details, soft light, head angle and I agree that leaving the blood was a good decision.

I'm not prone to superlatives, but this is perhaps one of my favourite or even my #1 portrait on BPN thus far (sorry, everybody else, tied for a close 2nd). Why? Good exposure, with detail in every tone, and tack sharp throughout. Nice, complementary, graded background (thanks for the detail about the brick building). Good head turn, and stark, sharp, catchlit eye (and not a painted in white PS dot). Beak in profile, with evidence of recent meal. Good comp/crop (I like them kinda tight, though).

Congrats.

Thanks for input guys....the last one I posted was a bit weak
lacking in contrast and sat.......so tweaked this one from same shoot.
Thanks for previous critique.

Jory, might generous comment......thank you

Wonderful portrait.

The blood in the beak tells the story, a true story.

Sharpness on feathers and eye melts me!

Love the detail, bg and lighting. Would have liked to see more of the hawk, but for a portrait, sharpness is quite nice.
