Somewhat similar to an image I posted last week...but on that previous one the red epaulettes were not showing quite as well as here. Had to desaturate the reds a bit until not clipped anymore. Also toned down the taller cattail tip as it was quite too bright - bordering on burnt. A bit of a gloomy and drizzly day, but a good one to expose the blacks.

Canon 40D + 100-400L @400mm, aperture priority, evaluative metering, 1/100s., f/7.1, ISO 800, +0.3 EC, natural light, handheld.

Good exposure, love the topside view with fanned tail and head angle, I could see this working as a vertilce as well, but still like it as is.

Love the feather detail, just perfect light.
The reds and yellows are just great too.
I see a bit of noise on the bird,
did you use noise filter?

Cheers,

Brilliant exposure and detail on those blacks Daniel, and pin sharp too. Super pose, and lovely OOF BG. Great image.

Cheers,

Thanks. I did apply NR selectively on the BG only. The noise on the bird is much more noticeable now looking at it from a laptop than on a PC's CRT.
