this one was vocalizing in a local wetland area.
400mm f/5.6L w/1.4X TC, ISO 400, 1/200, f/8, +.67 EV
Some small branches cloned out

Nice and sharp Dave with great details in the blacks. Looks like you DOF is very good from the wingtip to the bill. They make such great subjects because they are squawking all the time!

Great display of the flared primaries. Sharp. Perhaps a little hot in the red channel, but always tough on these guys to get the blacks without blowing the reds. I like the greenery on the perch. Just mildly distracted by the small twig just in front of the bird.

I like the calling pose, details, exposure control and BG. It may be a bit of work, but I agree with Randy that the one little branch is a bit distracting.

Brilliant exposure on the blacks, stunning light on the eye, and overall pin sharp. Superb image Dave.
