Magnus:

A striking image of a bird we don't often see flying. The reflections off the water, the highlighted water droplets and sharpness are good. Cropping very effective.

I wish the upper wing was in fact up a bit, to show it off better. I also wish the green background was just a bit higher, so it didn't merge with the top line of the bird.

Still, I like this one a lot. Loons are one of my favorite species.

Thanks for sharing. By the way, where was this one taken?

Thankīs Randy! I can agree with you about the wing and the green background! The image are taken in the middle of Sweden! The outskirts of a town called Falun! I think this Loon is a juvenile from the same year it was taken!

Magnus:

thanks for the info, it always adds to my enjoyment of an image. What species of loon is this? I live in Michigan, and we only see common loons here.

Do you see them flying much? Here, it is quite uncommon, as they spend 98% of their time on/under the water!

I think itīs called Red-throated Diver (Gavia stellata)!
In Sweden you can see them flying pretty much when they looking for food for the chicks! They fly between different lakes/ponds and hunting!

Great posture and good exposure! You did well to freeze the action at that shutter speed!
