This photograph was taken in the Kruger National Park with an inexpensive 'standby' lens after I'd experienced some problems with my Canon 300 mm L. I've cloned some grass out of the foreground and cropped it slightly.

Camera: Canon 1Ds Mk II.
Lens: 100-300 mm at 260 mm.
1/400 sec, f5, ISO 200 mm.

This partial body shot works for me. Some may argue that the OOF animals in the BG are distractive, but in my opnion they can add to an image of herd animals as these, coz it is simply part of their environment. Making and seeing seemingly sharp images as this made with inexpensive lenses makes you wonder why we all buy these incredibly expensive pieces of glass, doesn't it?

David I love this shot! Beautiful details on the two in focus ewes and the OOF ones let you know they're in a larger herd.

The tight crop works well here and I like the OOF subjects in the BG, gives you a sense of the herd. You captured a nice highlight in the eyes... Well done!
